Xiomara Owens

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium BHA

Dr. Xiomara "Xio" Owens grew up in Wasilla, Alaska and currently lives in Anchorage with her wife and their five children. Xio obtained her PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She completed her pre-doctoral internship as a clinician in the rural community of Bethel, servicing clients from 56 villages in the surrounding region. She still enjoys every opportunity she has to travel to villages throughout Alaska. Since 2009, Xio has worked in the Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) Program at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, supporting tribal partners' development and implementation of regional BHA programs and workforce. As the Director of Behavioral Health Aide Training, Xio works alongside her team to design, develop, and deliver resources statewide to support workforce training and certification needs and goals. In her off time, Xio enjoys being with her family, biking, cooking, doing puzzles, and playing games.
