Violet Thomas is a dual credit high school/undergraduate student at Barrow High School and Iḷisaġvik College in Utqiaġvik, Alaska. She has been working in Dr. Linda Nicholas-Figueroa's lab since 2023, performing DNA extraction from soil and liquid cultures, PCR and gel electrophoresis, microscopy, and most recently learning rapid sequencing with MinION. Violet plans to pursue a science degree from University of Alaska Fairbanks and work in vaccine development or pharmaceuticals. She is also in the University of Alaska Fairbanks' GeoForce program, getting field experience and studying geoscience. Violet enjoys playing bassoon in the Barrow High School band and tap dancing with Miss Valerie at The Tap Studio in Anchorage, Alaska.
