Todd O'Hara

Dr. Todd O'Hara joined Texas A&M University as a Professor with the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences January 2020 overseeing the Wildlife Toxicology Laboratory 2.0 (WTL 2.0). Dr. O'Hara's academic training includes a D.V.M. (University of Wisconsin - Madison), and Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Toxicology (Medical College of Virginia). Dr. O'Hara was in Alaska from 1995 as Professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF, 2003-2019), and Research Biologist for the North Slope Borough (1995 - 2003). He remains on the faculty at the UAF. With his wife Dr. Carla Willetto (DVM at UAF), they had a son and daughter born in Alaska. Todd and Carla went to Alaska for the "opportunity of a lifetime" to work and live with amazing people and animals. They still have a home in Fairbanks. Dr. O'Hara's major interests are environmental/wildlife toxicology, zoonotic diseases, food security, and wildlife conservation and medicine in a One Health context including assessment of mercury exposure in people of Mexico and Alaska. Current research activities involve study of fish, pinnipeds, cetaceans, and other biota related to exposure to and adverse health impacts of environmental agents of disease.
